Deregistering a POV should not be a last-minute mystery.

The correct sequence depends on the installation. Ship or Sell uses the selected Germany pickup to show the most relevant public checklist instead of pretending there is one Germany-wide military-office process.

Wiesbaden

USAG Wiesbaden says personnel leaving on ETS/PCS must turn their plates in to Vehicle Registration before leaving the community. Its current page also links dedicated checklists for shipping a vehicle and appointing an agent to sell, ship or dispose of a POV.

Rheinland-Pfalz / Kaiserslautern area

The current USAG Rheinland-Pfalz vehicle-registration information lists deregistration and Agent Owner services and says personnel leaving the community must turn in their plates.

Bavaria

The current Bavaria shipping checklist specifically says the vehicle must be dropped at the shipping location before deregistering or obtaining transition plates. It also says a privately shipped vehicle needs shipping documents and a condition report; a booking confirmation alone is not accepted as the shipping document.
