Maryland vehicle tax after a PCS or overseas import.

Ship or Sell separates an already-owned vehicle from a newly purchased Europe vehicle and from buying a replacement after arrival. Those scenarios can have different tax treatment.

Already owned / transferred vehicle

Active-duty service members transferring a vehicle already titled in their name into Maryland can have the excise tax waived when ownership does not change; current title certificate fee is $200. Maryland lists a 6.5% vehicle titling tax based on fair market value and a $200 new/used title certificate fee.

Newly purchased or replacement vehicle

Use 6.5% titling tax as the state-level vehicle acquisition tax estimate; actual registration/inspection costs may add more.

Why the calculator may still show “Review”

Local taxes, prior registration, military residency, Home of Record, prior tax paid, purchase timing and county/city rules can change the result. Ship or Sell only inserts a dollar tax when the mapped rule has enough facts for a defensible estimate.
