Putting a lot of money into a vehicle is exactly why carrier liability and optional cargo insurance should be treated as separate things.
Do not assume it is. Your normal vehicle insurance and an ocean carrier’s legal liability are different from dedicated marine cargo coverage.
Carrier liability can be limited by maritime law and transport terms. A customer with a high-value or heavily invested vehicle may want separate cargo coverage based on the insured value.
Ask what risks are covered, deductible, insured value basis, exclusions, loading/unloading coverage and how pre-existing damage is documented.
